Esta é uma expressão metafórica; pois, como a glória infinita que é depositada para os filhos de Deus até agora excede todos os nossos sentidos, que não conseguimos encontrar palavras para expressá-la, o castigo que aguarda os réprobos é incompreensível e, portanto, é obscurecido de acordo com a medida da nossa capacidade. From ignorance of this, the Sophists have tortured themselves, to no purpose, by fruitless disputes, as we have already hinted on a former occasion.
